Lines was also the subject of a photo challenge this weekend over on Bluesky, Paul. I love stained-glass windows. It looks like the cinema was refurbished very well. Good to hear, as we need to save these old, forgotten building that hold so many memories for folks.

I’ll check that out on Bluesky, Hugh, thanks. My grandparents in the 1920’s used to go to The Picture House, and my parents in the 1950’s. Then it fell into disrepair and decay, with small trees growing out of windows and through cracks in the roof. Amazingly some people still worked there! But I was allowed in about six years ago, the long closed-off cinema area is beautiful and I am so looking forward to it re-opening.

It sounds a wonderful place, Paul. Although I’m surprised some people were still working there when it has trees growing out of the windows and roof. Were they looking after the place as in ensuring nobody got in?

        When is it reopening?

Apparently just the fascia has been restored for now as they raise money for the rest of the building. People were working there keeping it just about viable as a cultural entity; honestly you wouldn’t believe the state of the office the man who showed me round was working in. A laptop set up in a dark first floor office with foliage in the corner and odd areas where the balcony used to be. The stain glass I took a photo of is new, based on what it used to look at. If you have time or interest to know a little more, here is a recent article on it, showing all the small trees I mentioned but clearly understated!

Thanks, Paul. It sounds like one of the buildings I saw in last night’s episode of ‘The Last Of Us.’ Glad it’s slowly getting the attention it deserves.
