I’ve written bits and pieces on BBC Radio 2, 4 and 5 comedy shows, worked in the script team for two series of Channel 4’s comedy-drama ‘Shameless’ and am currently working with The Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool as part of their script development programme. I am also a songwriter with songs on all major platforms.

OUTFIT

In my hometown of Prescot in Merseyside on the 21st and 22nd of August it was the Serious Nonsense Festival which featured lots of great street performers and artists, many dressed in costumes, and a tremendous amount of effort and passion went into them all.

Inspired by the area’s historical connection to the nonsense poet Edward Lear, the festival also mirrored the three-day cultural carnival that used to happen in the town annually in the 16th century when performers, including Shakespeare’s travelling group of actors, travelled to the town from all over the country.

It was a tremendous couple of days for Prescot with lots of families flocking here to join in and see the performers.

    I love the chance to dress up at any time, so those two people in your photo look like they are having a ball, Paul. It’s events like this that bring communities together. I only wish there were more of them, but I know that it can also be expensive to put on these events, not to mention the hard work that goes into them. Well done to all the participants.

    Until about 15 years ago, nothing was still happening like this in my town, but then a community theatre group started doing Shakespeare productions which were great fun, then the proposal and subsequently building of the Shakespeare North Playhouse just three minutes away from where I live woke up the town’s heritage again and it’s obvious a lot of people love getting involved in these kind of days.

    And as for you loving to dress up, I have no doubts you do. Photos please on a future blog!
